6/29/06 Paul & Marie Puhl heard groaning outside their house at 4 AM one day last week. Thinking someone was in trouble, Paul went outside to investigate. He saw a 300 lb. Mama bear watching her cubs from a nearby tree. The cubs were climbing from tree to tree so they could drop down behind their electric fence, placed there to protect their garden. Mama stayed in the tree for 24 hours, only coming down once to munch on some bird seed strategically placed near the tree by John Nemcek. Photos in "Photo Gallery" were provided by Hans and Linda Delius. Paul gets our District "Good Samaritan" Award for coming to the rescue.
5/26/06 Dvorak's, also on Pigeon Rd. had two feeders (Hummingbird & Squirrel) thrown to the ground. In addition, a partially-crushed peony bush in front looked suspiciously like the work of a bear.
5/18/06 Batchelet's bird feeder, next to their house on Pigeon Road, was knocked down during the early morning hours. Most likely it was a bear because the feeder hit the ground with such force as to break the glass inside. The bears aren't hibernating anymore :)
